RS is always going to be focused on conversation, particularly in languages like Japanese and Chinese where the writing is best learned academically.įourth, no matter which RS program you use, you MUST practice speaking the language in your daily life. Thirdly, it is hard to learn their writing system, even for them. It's never the correct amount of polite/casual, but if you talk that way everyone will give you a pass on politeness because it's clear you're speaking "foreigner Japanese". Not sure how to take that, but anyone who's at the point of being aggressive over the pronunciation of "GL" in Italian really needs to chill out and think happy thoughts. I really don't need anymore people who received their Minor in Italian years ago and haven't spoken a word since to tell me how to speak my own language (I'm also a dual citizen enough with the aggressive harassment please I'm just trying to share friendly information).Įdit 2: People seem to be very angry to the point of aggressive that I said there's no "L". Source: I lived there for years, my family is Italian, and I grew up around the language. Perhaps a subtle difference, but definitely not an "L" sound. Per my instructions from my instructor and fellow Italians, the back of your tongue needs to meet the top of your rear-most teeth, not the front of the roof of your mouth with the tip of your tongue. In reality, there's no actual "L" when pronouncing the word. People foreign to the language are taught how to pronounce "GL" the easy way. Americans always say, "Beeg-lee-et-toe", when it should be "Bee-yeh-toe" (still not quite right, but you can't spell how it's actually pronounced).Įdit: Wow, okay, I get it people. The Italian word for ticket is "biglietto". Americans over pronounce every vowel, and I was shocked to learn through Rosetta Stone that vowels blend together, with some disappearing altogether in some hybrid vowel.
